Have you seen those little photos next to some of the comments on this blog and many others too?

They are called Gravatars  (globally recognized avatar), and you can get one too.

Just go to this website http://en.gravatar.com/ and sign up.

You can associate different Gravatars within 1 account by using different email address.

So comment below and then go get your gravatar so we can see and remember you’re face the next time we see you. (that was the point I wanted to make about branding…)

P.S. it doesn’t have to be your face, it could be a picture of a cow, cat, rock. well just about anything.

What is a ping?

Acording to Wikipedia:
Ping is a computer network tool used to test whether a particular host is reachable across an IP network; it is also used to self test the network interface card of the computer, or as a speed test. It works by sending ICMP “echo request” packets to the target host and listening for ICMP “echo response” replies. Ping estimates the round-trip time, generally in milliseconds, records any packet loss, and prints a statistical summary when finished.

But for us bloggers it means letting rss services know about our latest post. you could use a service like Ping-O-Matic or you could just copy these urls into WordPress.

Just log into your dashboard click settings, writing and scroll to the bottom of the page and find this:

Next paste the list below into the box and save. WordPress will automatically broadcast you new post to ping services for you.

Become a comment wizard

How often do you comment on other blogs per day? If it’s less than 2 you should get snapping on a new approach. If you look at most of the successful bloggers you will find them very oftenly on other blogs. Why? Because they know the secrete that makes or breaks a blogger!

Blogging is about being part of a community. No blog is an island to it’s self, and you as a blogger shouldn’t be ether. Get involved in your blogging community by commenting on your neighbor’s blogs.

So how do I get started?

Find blogs that you can identify with. Weather it’s because the blogger writes about the same topics as you or because he/she has the same style of writing as yourself. Find a post that you like and fire up your brain.

What should I comment?

Before you comment make sure you have read the entire post. Then ask yourself what could I add to this discussion. weather it be a question or a comment make sure you add to the value of the blogger’s work. Take your time and try to be insightful, nobody is rushing you.

What NOT to comment

It’s a really good idea not to say something like ‘I like your blog’ or ‘good post” Especially if that’s all you say. It shows that you are really lazy… or just a spam bot!

Should I disagree?

Sure If you find that you don’t agree with what the blogger has posted you should feel free to comment that. Make sure you use tact and point out your thinking on the subject. Also note the blogger may remove your comment, but they may also thank you for adding to their discussion.

Think of commenting as making new friends because that is what you are really doing.

Define a blog

How do you define a blog? You might be surprised just how your definition will frame your success or failure as a blogger.

If you think of your blog as a way to brag about what you know you might not find an interactive audience.

Instead think of your blog as a place to share your knowlage while making new freinds. In fact you are the leader of your own community. You as the blogger are the conversation starter.

So maybe a better definition would be, Blog: A website ran by one or more writers indulging their readers with insightful and meaningful conversation.

Give your readers something to talk about. Speak your mind even if you feel it your opinions are unpopular. You might be surprised how many readers will agree with you, and if they don’t all the better for further conversation.

Be yourself and watch your readership grow into friendships.

Better the world

>ally love the Nintendo Wii, though I have never played the system. Sorry just not a console type. However I think their marketing strategy was brilliant.

Nintendo took a very basic business principle and lifted it way beyond the extreme. Find a need and fill it: or in Nintendo’s case find an epidemic and build a fun solution to help fight it.

Wii is being used for more than just another way to kill time. It can be found in hospitals and nursing homes helping the injured regain their mobility.

So, can you do this with your website? Filling a need is one of the first and basic principles of business. But can you push the envelope and go beyond it?

Woopra Excitement

I just heard via Twitter Woopra is going to be moving out of beta very, very soon. If you haven’t had the chance to look at this site now would be a good time.

So What is Woopra?

It’s an Analytic service much like Google Analytics, with one key difference; It has an application for your desktop. This adds some cool features that you will not find with others. Like the ability to watch in real time what your visitors are doing. Just way too cool!

You’ll also be able to interact with your guest. Again way cool!

It’s still in beta at this point, but expect it to go full release very soon.

MyBlogLog faceleft

Have you noticed MyBlogLog new design?

I think they could have thought it out a bit better. I mean it’s very nice looking but for me usability was the last thought on the designers mind’s.

The reason I like MyBlogLog is because of the real time stats. But the have put this section

Get the most out of Entrecard

It’s not really a secret that Entrecard is a good way to jump start your blog’s traffic. The real secret is how to become an Entrecard power dropper.

My Technique

I start by loading a new FireFox browser window and navagate to my drop inbox. Then with my mideal mouse button I click about 20-30 links. This opens the links in new tabs. Useauly i step away for a bit or work on something else allowing the tabs to load. Even with my fast connection It can take a few momments for those tabs to load.

When i come back most if not all of the tabs are fully loaded an I’m ready to get going. So I click on the first tab then I click on the drop button, and with my middle mouse button/scroll wheel I click the card. This load anothe new tab.

Now here is my big secret. I use the keyboard shortcut key ctrl+w. This closes the tab I just used and brings the next tab into view.

It’s really that simple, really! I can get my 300 in about 30 minutes.

Improve drops on your site

To get the most out of Entrecard you should place your card in a spot that is highly visible. Sometimes doing so can be tough dempending on your sites design. If so check out the Entrecard Popper. It pops you card up to the top of the page when a user visits your site from their Entrecard’s drop inbox.

Get paid to search

Did you know that you can earn money from something you are already doing? I just discovered a new search engine that pays you to search.

Using scour search is just as easy as using Google, Yahoo or MSN. In fact Scour uses all 3 three of these search engines. The main difference is that you earn points for searching that you can later convert to cash.

Also the results are sorted by user votes. The more votes the higher the listing will be. It’s like Google+Yahoo+MSN+digg/stumble=Find the best stuff first and fast.

I should also mention you get paid for searching,  voting and commenting.
