Brand yourself in your comments

Have you seen those little photos next to some of the comments on this blog and many others too?

They are called Gravatars (globally recognized avatar), and you can get one too.

Just go to this website http://en.gravatar.com/ and sign up.

You can associate different Gravatars within 1 account by using different email address.

So comment below and then go get your gravatar so we can see and remember you’re face the next time we see you. (that was the point I wanted to make about branding…)

P.S. it doesn’t have to be your face, it could be a picture of a cow, cat, rock. well just about anything.

Don’t overdo the Gravatar thing. Your main site (index.php) looks terrible overdone with it. Take it out or replace them with a category icon or something.

I never used a gravatar for a very long time… but I really missed out on the branding. I am always drawn to certain faces that I see on many blogs,and if those comments draw my attention, I am more likely to click through to their site.

This is definitely good for branding; however I find it’s best not to invest too much into an email address I use for commenting – plenty of unscrupulous bloggers seem to pass them on to spammers (or perhaps the spammers themselves have some honey-traps out there). Either way you need to be able to walk away from that email address when the spam gets too bad.

I love Gravatar. I can’t even remember when I started using it I like that it allows you to have multiple email addresses for the same account, you never know when that will come in handy

Wow, I was not aware of Gravatars . Well, I knew some comments had little pictures next to them but I was unsure what they were called or how to get one. I do admit a comment with a picture associated next to it will get more views, it looks more like a real person and with that it gives the appeal that, that person put effort into the comment rather than a “great post” comment.
