What is a ping?
Acording to Wikipedia:
Ping is a computer network tool used to test whether a particular host is reachable across an IP network; it is also used to self test the network interface card of the computer, or as a speed test. It works by sending ICMP “echo request” packets to the target host and listening for ICMP “echo response” replies. Ping estimates the round-trip time, generally in milliseconds, records any packet loss, and prints a statistical summary when finished.
But for us bloggers it means letting rss services know about our latest post. you could use a service like Ping-O-Matic or you could just copy these urls into WordPress.
Just log into your dashboard click settings, writing and scroll to the bottom of the page and find this:

Next paste the list below into the box and save. WordPress will automatically broadcast you new post to ping services for you.

Hi,
I’m also using a similar list, but read some posts that too many pings, some problem with wp, will drop your google ranking.
Which plugin do you use for your advertiser signups?

I’d also like to point out that everytime you edit and save a post on WP, it pings…too many pings will cause problems for your blog and could lead to the IP blocked/banned.

Do you know your WordPress blog pings unnecessarily every time you edit a post? Think how many times you click on “Save and Continue Editing” or “Save” button. Your blog will ping unnecessarily that many times you click on those buttons.
Save your blog from getting tagged as ping spammer by installing some plugin.

Its highly recommended not to use such huge ping lists. You can get in trouble with google to it, and your site ip’s might even get blocked from several of those ping servers when you post posts too often – each time you do, you ping’em.
Anyhow, I don’t really see a point doing it anyway, you barely notice any effect doing it.
Getting links forum marketing, commenting other blogs and so forth is much more effective

The jury is out on this one for me. I was of the understanding that using too many ping sites can be detrimental.
Some comments about pinging while updating posts has made me think. To avoid hitting the update button, I usually prepare my post on text editor first then copy and paste. Easy if it is all text, but I use a lot of pics. It is necessary to update often so I can check how it looks on the page.
I don’t see any way around this.

I have been using Pingler.com and that has worked out very well. I don’t have any URL included in in WP.
As “Mobile NZ” pointed out in comment #2 if you have a lot of URLs set up to Ping each time you edit a post you can run into potential problems. So I leave the list blank and then just hit Pingler after all edits/saves are complete. Has anyone else used Pingler?

If you have a website, and you have a great product to sell, your main concern is to get your website to the point where you make money from it. How can you make money if your site is not getting any traffic?
It used to be hard to get traffic to your site. You had to spend a ton of money to get your website set up to take the orders, and then another bunch of money to get traffic to your website. You don’t have to do that anymore. Why not? I have a powerful, effective technique that if followed will guarantee your hit counter will exploded, and just in 15 minutes.
I created a 15 minute five-step process that will catapult your hit counter. It will be like looking at your electric meter when you run the air conditioner. The only difference, the counter that is turning is your hit counter. And this means a heavy amount of traffic to your site. And do you know what happens when you get a heavy amount of traffic to your site? If your sales copy is written properly, you will gain a ton of sales. Isn’t that what you want? Isn’t that why you built your website for to begin with?
Why have a non-productive website when it can be making untold amount of money for you. All you need to start it is by getting traffic to your site. And I solved that problem for you as well. Take a look at my super powerful program and you will find your hits skyrocket to the roof, even within 15 minutes.
I know it works because I have a friend who owns three websites. He wasn’t seeing much traffic to any of them. As such, he wasn’t’ making any money. When he tried my super powerful program, not only did his traffic increase to all his websites, but he also started making tons of money. If he can do it so can you.
Don’t waste another day watching your hit counter slowly increase when you can watch your hit counter turn at the speed of light.
