Just added

I have just added a new forum group called “Ask the Admin anything… — Need help with a blogging question, I’ll help” I think that pretty much says what my intent is here, but I guess I should extrapolate bit. I guess I could make a much of rules our guide lines at to what could be asked. but where’s the fun in that? So instead I’ll tell you more about me and let you decide what to ask.

I currently run several blogs, but I haven’t been doing that for very long at all. Some of you may know me from MyBlogIt where a tout the power of WordPress, and XAMPP. Like I said I’m new to blogging but not to internet marketing.

Before I ventured into this newest phase of my life, I owned a mildly successful hosting empire. Okay maybe empire is going a bit too far. I did however manage to muster a living from it for more than 14 years until I sold it off over the last couple of months.

What I learn over those last 14 years was very vast. My first learning curve was internet marketing You may have noticed just putting up a website will not bring the crowds.

When I first had the ideal and did the research I was given this little gem of advice “Build it and they will come…” can you believe that I bought that line? Well I learnt my lesson after about 2 months of waiting. Yea you can laugh now, I do.

The first two years of that was just chaos, you see I knew very little about the internet in those days. But you see I’m a quick study, and I just don’t give in easily. So what was some of the knowledge gained from that phase of my life?

Server thecnologeis, you know like apache, cgi-perl (yuck), and PHP(yum). All kinds of other borring stuff like ftp, pop, smtp server configertaions. Linux, which I play with regularly. This list could grow very long.

After I got comfortable with that every growing list of stuff I dabbled in programming C++ , PHP… I also did an insane about of design work for clients, big and small. I’ve have contributed in several small ways to KDE, Gnome, Mandrake just to list a small spattering.

I started the hosting because at that point in my life I was a merchandiser, wholesaler, and supply of goofy flea-market items. Me and my family had just moved from Massachusetts to Florida. A great move weather wise, but career wise not so smart. There was no way for me to compete with all the other wholesale merchandisers there.

So my brilliant idea; a wholesale website. I started shopping around for designers and hosters(That’s what I called them back then.) Find one that I felt comfortable was just not possible, So I toiled and learn how to do it all myself. After a few weeks toying with the technologies I was hooked and soon dropped my wholesale merchandising career of 3 years and jumped into the hosting and design full time.

Before all that I was a partner in a Fundraising firm. We raised funds for charities such as The Missing Childers’s Fund, and Make a Wish Foundation. We did a lot of really good work, and it seems like ages ago.

Also as a hobby I do a little writing, I have written about 200 short stories and am in the middle of my third attempt at a book. All of them science fiction, but one. I have never published any of them, though I have tried.

My mind has a great many tidbits to offer so go ahead a pick at it. If I can’t offer the answers myself I will try and point you in the right direction, or who knows someone else may jump in and help out.

P.S. I am still looking for supporters, click Support Us at the top of this page to learn more.
